Application of boron carbide on sapphire chip (LED):
In recent years, due to the development of the LED industry, it has brought great business opportunities to companies that produce and process sapphire crystals. Due to the high strength of sapphire crystals and high hardness (Mohs Hardness 9), it has brought great difficulties to processing companies. From the perspective of materials and grinding, the materials for processing and grinding sapphire crystals are artificial diamond, carbonized boron, and silicon. Because the artificial diamond is too large (Mo’s Hardness 10), it will scratch the surface when grinding sapphire chips, affecting the light transmission of the chip, and expensive. The hardness of the silica is insufficient (Mohs Hardness 7), and the grinding force is time -consuming and working in the grinding project. Therefore, carbide grinding (Mo’s hardness 9.3) has become an ideal material for processing and grinding sapphire crystal grinding. Boron carbide grinding has a good performance in the double -sided grinding of sapphire chips and the thin and polishing of the sapphire -based LED outer lattice.
