Product Introduction & Applications of Crystalline Boron

Crystalline boron is mainly of stable β‑rhombohedral crystal structure.

It features a Mohs hardness of 9.3,a melting point of approx. 2100 ℃, high temperature resistance, oxidation resistance and strong chemical inertness. The ¹⁰B isotope possesses an extremely high thermal neutron absorption cross‑section. Unlike more reactive amorphous boron, crystalline boron delivers superior stability and suits demanding high‑end working conditions. It is a high‑purity raw material for borides, special ceramics, electronics, nuclear industry and aerospace.

  1. Nuclear Industry (Core Application) Taking advantage of the excellent thermal neutron capture capacity of boron‑10, it is used as neutron absorption control material, control rod feedstock, emergency shutdown absorber and neutron shielding material for nuclear reactors. It also serves as target material for neutron detector tubes and neutron counters. It does not generate long‑lived radionuclides and features high safety.
  2. Semiconductor and Photovoltaic Electronics (High‑purity 5N / 6N Crystalline Boron) It acts as a P‑type dopant for Czochralski silicon and float‑zone silicon single crystals to manufacture P‑type silicon wafers.  applied in ion implantation and diffusion processes for producing diodes, MOSFETs, IGBTs and substrates of photovoltaic P‑type cells. It can also be used as feedstock for high‑temperature semiconductors, ignition electrodes and special cathodes.

  1. Military, Aerospace and Energetic Materials High‑energy fuel for oxygen‑lean solid rocket propellants with high combustion calorific value; Component of energetic agents, delay compositions, ignition powders and special explosives; Precursor raw material for manufacturing bulletproof ceramics, armours and high‑temperature structural ceramics such as boron carbide, titanium boride and zirconium boride; Precursor for boron fibre composite materials applied in aerospace heat‑resistant components and lightweight high‑strength structural parts.
  2. Metallurgy Boron additive for special alloys, boron steel and NdFeB permanent magnetic alloys; deoxidizer for oxygen‑free copper and special steel; raw material for synthesizing metal borides including titanium diboride, zirconium diboride and chromium boride; additive for magnesia‑carbon bricks and refractory materials to improve high‑temperature strength and erosion resistance.
  3. Special Ceramics and Wear‑resistant Composites For synthesizing superhard wear‑resistant, anti‑corrosion and conductive ceramics such as B₄C, TiB₂ and ZrB₂; raw material for wear‑resistant coatings, nozzles, sealing parts and high‑temperature moulds; also used as reinforcing phase in composite ceramics. Note: Crystalline boron is elemental boron feedstock; boron carbide (B₄C) is an abrasive / bulletproof material synthesized downstream from it.
  4. Other Applications Special sensors, fuel cells, plasma materials and feedstock for fine organoboron synthesis.
