Boron carbide powder, also known as black diamond, is an organic substance with a chemical formula of B₄C, usually gray-black powder. It is one of the three hardest materials known. Boron carbide is a hard black shiny crystal. Boron carbide hardness is lower than an industrial diamond but higher than silicon carbide. Compared with other pottery, boron carbide ceramics are less fragile.
Boron carbide powder is one of the most stable substances to acid and is stable in all concentrated or dilute acid or alkali aqueous solutions. Boron carbide powder is basically stable below 800°C in an air environment.
