The development of boron carbide coatings?
The high hardness, chemical stability, radiation resistance, and excellent thermal and electrical properties of boron carbide material itself make it an attractive engineering material. With the development of coating technology, in order to overcome the inherent brittleness and reinforcement of boron carbide materials, the currently used boron carbide coatings are mainly focused on surface protection of tokamak devices and thin film cutters. The thickness of the tokamak surface coating layer increases, but the coating rate and thickness of the coating are uniform: the coating thickness of thin film tools decreases, mostly amorphous structure. Carbonized coatings are to be widely used in the coating field. How to prepare a denser boron carbide coating, improve the bonding force between the coating and the substrate, and reduce the coating thickness are still the focus of future research.
